Fashion designer Donna Karan has partnered with artist Philippe Dodard for a project exploring the cultural heart of Haiti.

The Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami brings together dresses from Karan’s collection and Dodard’s graphic ink wash paintings to form a small exhibit. The Luminous Breath of the Human Spirit: Donna Karan and Philippe Dodard is on view at MOCA’s lobby gallery through June 20.

The work of Wesner La Forest, Peterson Laurent, Odilon Pierre, Bourmond Byron manifest their originality through a compellingly expressive visual language. This exhibit celebrates themes both universal and particularly Haitian; the rich cultural landscape of daily life in Haiti emerges, with its rituals and folklore, creating a detailed and poignant portrait of Haiti, its single-mindedness, resourcefulness and faith.

From Here to Haiti Art Show

You are cordially invited to an Art Show Fundraiser with FROM HERE TO HAITI- Saturday Jan 14, 2011 from 9m to 9pm at 14-46 Utopia Parkway, Whitestone, NY 11357 . It will take place in the studio of artist Patricia Brintle. This show features the works of over 30 international and Haitian artists, many of them living in NY. This is an opportunity to meet the artists, help Haiti, and obtain a wonderful new piece of art at the same time.

The proceeds will benefit the repairs of St Jean Baptiste Church in Anse d'Hainault, Haiti.

From HERE TO HAITI is a not-profit corporation whose purpose is to raise funds for the benefit of the people of Haiti by repairing non-governmental buildings used for public assembly, in particular Catholic and/r Christian churches and their related structures and by the creation of local employment opportunities for the people of Haiti through that repair work.

As the home of one of the oldest collections of Haitian art, the Figge has benefited from the creativity and vitality of the Haitian people. The exhibition Restoring the Spirit—Celebrating Haitian Art pays homage to Haiti’s longstanding visual traditions and the indomitable spirit of the Haitian people in the face of adversity.

Sponsored by Konbit for Haiti, and curated by Jeff Rogers of Epple Seed Arts, in association with Beyond Borders, Haitian Art Beat hopes to raise $5,000.00 to help people build movements in Haiti and abroad to liberate themselves from isolation and oppression. Proceeds will also be used to continue trade with Haitian artists and to promote artistic exchanges between Haiti and the United States.Featuring works created since the January 12, 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti, this exhibition showcases works by artists from the artist’s community of Croix des Bouquets.
